Etihad finalises Alitalia board appointments, engages new marketing SVP

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo – former Ferrari chairman – has been selected as non-executive chairman of the 9-head board of directors at the “new Alitalia” set to be re-launched on January 1 after Etihad’s 49% equity stake investment in the Italian carrier received formal regulatory approval last week. Alitalia will select five of the directors, while Etihad will select three. Chief executive officer (CEO) Silvano Cassano is jointly-appointed. Former International Air Transport Association (IATA) CEO and director general Giovanni Bisignani will serve as non-executive director on the new board.

In other news, Etihad has appointed Shane O’Hare to the role of senior vice president of marketing to take the brand position “up another level”. Etihad CEO James Hogan describes O’Hare as one of the world’s “outstanding marketeers.”
