Air New Zealand flew 11.1% more passengers year-on-year in August

Air New Zealand (Air NZ) flew 1.2 million passengers on its domestic and international networks in August, an increase from 1.1 million air travellers flown in the same month in 2022. Read More » The Star Alliance member’s capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), was 67.2% higher year-on-year, but passenger revenue per available passenger kilometre (RASK), declined 13%. “The overall increase in group capacity largely was driven by the resumption of the international network following the full re-opening of New Zealand’s borders post-COVID,” Air NZ said in a regulatory filing. “The decline in Group RASK compared with a year earlier was the result of a significant mix change for the 2024 financial year to date, with long-haul capacity growth and load factors substantially higher relative to short-haul.” Passenger load factor for the 31 days was lower by 6.9 percentage points, to 78.9%, the airline said.
