American Airlines and United Airlines have said they had submitted their applications to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for slots to add service to Tokyo Haneda airport. Read More » The opportunity to add new service to Tokyo Haneda arose after Delta Air Lines decided not to commence Portland-Haneda service and returned those slots to the DOT. American first flagged its intention to launch daily nonstop flights between New York JFK and Haneda with 777-200 equipment last month. Currently, American serves Haneda from Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles, while its oneworld alliance partner Japan Airlines, as well as All Nippon Airways, fly between Haneda and New York JFK. United has applied to the DOT to add daily Houston Intercontinental-Haneda service, a route served by fellow Star Alliance member All Nippon Airways. United, which first announced plans to apply for the Haneda slots in October, currently served the close-in Tokyo airport from Chicago O'Hare, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco and Washington Dulles.
