December 1st 2023
IndiGo has welcomed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation's approval to operate under special visual flight rules (VFR) at Deoghar Airport in the eastern India. Read More » Under the special VFR, the airline has been approved to operate its Airbus fleet in visibility as low as 3,600m and its ATR fleet in visibility as low as 3,200m. The standard VFR for Deoghar Airport required visibility at 5,000m. The airport was also limited to daylight hours operations. IndiGo said the two conditions proved challenging during the winter season and led to a significant number of flight cancellations. "The successful implementation of special VFR operations is a testament to the continuous efforts and collaboration between regulatory authorities, airlines and the airport operators to strengthen Indian aviation," IndiGo senior vice president for flight operations, Captain Ashim Mittra, said. "This marks a significant milestone for Deoghar Airport, enhancing its operational capabilities and ensuring smoother air travel for the region."
