Sydney Airport is not supporting a proposed codeshare between Garuda Indonesia and Qantas because Garuda, Qantas Airways and Qantas Group LCC subsidiary, Jetstar, already operate 63.7% of seats between the two countries. Read More » In September, Qantas Group applied to Australia's International Air Services Commission (IASC) for permission for Garuda to add its GA airline code on Qantas flights between Australia and Indonesia. “Sydney Airport does not support the Qantas application given the likelihood a codeshare agreement with Garuda will increase their dominance on Australia-Indonesia routes and lessen competition in a popular and important market,” Sydney Airport chief corporate affairs officer, Karen Halbert, said in a submission to the IASC.

“Sydney Airport does support capacity being added to the existing bilateral air service agreement between Australia and Indonesia and the subsequent opportunity for increased competition in the market that could provide customers with increased choice and drive down airfares.”
