China Eastern Airlines narrows financial losses

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) is forecasting net losses ranging from 6.8 billion yuan (US$950 million) to 8.3 billion yuan for 2023, an improvement from a net loss of 37.386 billion yuan in 2022. Although operating results improved significantly in 2023, a slower than expected recovery of international routes, domestic overcapacity, weak business travel demand and exchange rate fluctuations will result in the carrier reporting a loss for the year, CEA said.
