South Korea legislates compulsory reporting of airline CO₂ emissions

From August, all eight airlines headquartered in South Korea will have to report their annual carbon emissions to the government following ratification of a law that proposes sanctions for carriers not maintaining emissions at 2019 levels. Read More » The “International Aviation Emission Bill” is part of efforts to comply with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said. The law will apply to Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Jeju Air, Air Busan, Jin Air, T'way Air, Air Incheon and Air Seoul. “The law is aimed at imposing sanctions, including fines, on carriers failing to maintain CO₂ emissions at 2019 levels,” the ministry said. The legislation is scheduled to take effect in August after approval from a Cabinet meeting.
