International airline association reports major Asia routes finished below 2019 numbers in 2023

Read More » The six routes worldwide that exceeded 2019 RPKs, a measure of demand, in 2023 were Middle East-North America, North America-Central America/Caribbean, Europe-North America, Within Central America and Europe-Central America/Caribbean. Despite Asia airlines booking the highest annual growth in RPKs for the year as key borders re-opened, the region lagged other major route areas in its recovery from the pandemic. “Other traffic flows involving the Asia-Pacific recorded similar numbers because of the delay in lifting travel restrictions,” the IATA economics report said. Asia-Pacific international routes measured by IATA were Middle East-Asia, North/South America-Southwest Pacific, Asia-Southwest Pacific, Europe-Asia, Asia-North America, Africa-Asia and Within Asia.
