China Southern Airlines “substantially” narrowed full-year losses in 2023

China Southern Airlines (CSA) narrowed losses in its latest fiscal year recording operating revenue of RMB159.9 billion (US$22.1 billion) for the 12 months to December 31 compared with RMB87 billion in full-year 2022. Read More » The airline’s annual losses in 2023 were RMB2.9 billion compared with RMB33.7 billion in 2022. In the reported period, the airline group recorded 2.842 million flight hours and carried 142 million passengers, an increase of 127% against the 63 million air travellers CSA transported in 2022. Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK) climbed to 246.9 billion, recording growth of around 142% against 102 billion (RPK) in the previous year. Capacity expanded 105% year-on-year, to 316.2 million, CSA said. Average passenger load factor improved almost 12%, to 78%, from 66.3% in 2022, it added.
