Emirates Airline boss, Sir Tim Clark, has told media at Berlin’s ITB last week his airline would be interested in buying as many as 200 additional A380s if manufacturer, Airbus, developed an upgraded A380neo. Read More » Predicting Emirates could use the first A380neo around 2021, Clark emphasized the re-engined version could be 13% more efficient than the existing version and as such would deliver an “enormous” boost to the airline’s profitability. The Emirates boss also revealed the Dubai-based carrier is redesigning its economy class to cut the weight of each seat by around 30%, which would reduce fuel consumption, but improve comfort.

As the “Big Three” Gulf carriers continue to fight accusations from their U.S. counterparts that they received government subsidies of more than $40 billion, Emirates last week highlighted its contribution of more than €10 billion to the European economy. A study by London-based consultancy, Frontier Economics, estimated that Emirates, through its operations and aircraft purchases, has supported 126,000 jobs across Europe in 2013 and 2014.

Separately, Emirates has announced it would launch a daily two-class B777-300ER service to Bali from June 3, its 148th global destination and 23rd port of call in the Asia-Pacific.
