The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has appointed Dr. Fang Liu of China as its new secretary general for a three-year term, beginning August 1. Read More » Liu succeeds Raymond Benjamin, who has held the position for two consecutive terms since 2009. She becomes the first woman, and the first Chinese national, ever to be appointed to the prestigious global position.

Liu holds various high-ranking positions with the Civil Aviation Administration of China, including director of its international affairs division. The air and space lawyer is charged with handling China’s multilateral relations with organizations such as ICAO, the World Trade Organization, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and the European Union.
