Asia-Pacific carriers lead world in post pandemic recovery

With a 38.5% year-on-year increase in demand, Asia-Pacific airlines topped the table worldwide for the pace of their post-COVID recovery, International Air Transport Association (IATA) data shows. Major routes from Asia-Pacific recorded outstanding growth, although scheduled flights from China to North America were only 16.5% of pre-pandemic numbers, IATA said. The region’s airlines also recorded 14.3% year-on-year air cargo growth. Demand from Asia to Europe climbed to 17.0% and within Asia to 11.8%. “Demand for travel is strong and there is every indication this should continue into the peak Northern Summer travel season. It is critical we have the capacity to meet this demand and ensure a hassle-free travel experience for passengers,” IATA’s director general, Willie Walsh said.
