Sichuan Airlines first Mainland carrier to use SAF for international passenger flight

On July 5, Sichuan Airlines (SAL) used sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for a Chengdu to Tokyo flight, the carrier said in a July 17 social media post. On July 14, 2023, Air China flew Hangzhou-Beijing with 10% domestic SAF, pioneering the use of SAF on Mainland passenger services. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has a target of 50% of Mainland flights to be SAF-powered by 2050.
