Powerful typhoon disrupting flight operations in Japan

Typhoon Shanshan, categorized on the severity scale as a 10, continues to threaten flights to Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures on the southwestern island of Kyushu. Read More » Japan Airlines has canceled 172 domestic flights and six international flights that were scheduled to operate in the last 36 hours and All Nippon Airways has scrapped 219 domestic flights and four international from Wednesday to August 30. The cancellations have affected the travel plans of 25,000 air passengers. Many other airlines from Japan and abroad have posted statements on their websites warning flights could be disrupted by Shanshan. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) forecasts Shanshan to make land fall on Kyushu in the next few days and approach the central and eastern regions of the country, which include Tokyo, on the weekend.
