China Airlines to operate Taiwan-Japan with new 787s

Taiwan’s flag carrier, China Airlines (CAL), said its new 787-9s and 787-10s, scheduled to enter into service at the airline in fiscal 2025, are designated for Japan routes. Read More » At a Taiwan Tourism Bureau and the Taiwan Tourism Association event to promote Japanese tourists to Taiwan, the organisers said Japanese visitors to Taiwan had reached 70% of pre-pandemic 2019 numbers this year, although they had slowed after the Hualien earthquake in April. From January to May, the average recovery rate from COVID was 64%, but the numbers climbed to near 80% in August. In full-year 2023, the figure was 43%. Taiwan tourist visits to Japan remain 4.6 times higher than Japanese travellers to Taiwan, the data shows. It also identified that more than half of Japanese visitors to Taiwan were males aged 40 or older.
