Two European flag carriers encouraging their governments to cap Mainland airlines’ flights to Europe

Air France-KLM is lobbying the French government to limit flights operated by Chinese carriers to Europe arguing its Mainland competitors have a competitive advantage as they can fly through Russian air space, a flight path not available to EU countries since Russia invaded Ukraine, reports Bloomberg Markets. Read More » At the same time, Lufthansa is urging Germany’s government to take the lead in challenging Beijing to take action about the increasingly contentious issue. Bloomberg reports there is some divergence among European carriers about how best to curb the rising number of flights operated by Chinese carriers taking the short cut to Europe. The two approaches being considered are involving Europe’s national governments in dealing with the issue or taking the matter to the European Union for action.
