AirAsia has introduced new ground support equipment, combo units, at its Kuala Lumpur International Airport hub. Read More » The units have a ground power unit (GPU) and an air conditioning unit (ACU), helping to cut carbon emissions by powering the aircraft while on the ground without the use of auxiliary power units that require jet fuel to operate. “These energy efficient combo units unlock a major opportunity for airlines like AirAsia to de-carbonise because we operate in countries with high humidity,” AirAsia Aviation Group chief airport and customer experience officer, Kesavan Sivanandam, said. “Previously, we were not able to do this because conventional GPUs lack the cabin cooling functions necessary for the comfort of our guests.”
