China Airlines delivers 66.7% profit increase in latest quarter

Taiwan-headquartered China Airlines (CAL) said net profit for the three months to September 30 improved to T$3.8 billion (US$118 million) from a T$2.3 billion net profit in the matching months a year ago. Costs were up a more moderate 2.7%, at T$42.8 billion for the quarter, the flag carrier added. “As the air travel market continues to recover, passenger demand has remained high due to long weekends and the summer peak,” CAL said. “Bookings for the final quarter are averaging 80% with demand for Northeast Asia and Japan particularly robust.” CAL reported non-stop Taipei-Seattle, launched last July, has been very well-received, recording an average 85% passenger load factor.
