Virgin Australia outlines plans for Australia-Doha network

Virgin Australia (VA) has submitted an application to Australia’s International Air Services Commission (IASC) to operate to Doha from several Australian cities. Read More » Planned to be flown by 777-300ERs wet leased from Qatar Airways the schedules are part of the airline’s application to the IASC for approval to operate the flights. VA hopes to fly daily nonstop from Brisbane, Perth and Sydney to Doha from next June and Melbourne-Doha by year-end 2025. Previously, VA said it would launch Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to Doha in June 2025 and Perth-Doha in the following November. “We are well progressed in obtaining all the required regulatory approvals and have concrete plans to use this full allocation as soon as possible,” VA CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka, said in the application. “We have secured the required slots in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth with Melbourne to follow in the next scheduling season. The required slots also have been secured in Doha.” The 777-300ERs earmarked for the Australia-Qatar routes can accommodate 354 to 412 passengers.
