South Korea to overhaul aviation safety systems

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) has unveiled reforms to strengthen the country's aviation safety systems. Read More » The measures were announced in the MOLIT's 2025 business report “Creating a comfortable daily life and a better tomorrow for the people”. They include inspections of airports and air traffic control towers across South Korea and assessments of maintenance records and safety protocols at South Korean-headquartered LCCs. The MOLIT is expected to release an aviation safety plan by April. The reforms follow the fatal accident of a Jeju Air 737-800, registration HL8088, last December 29. The aircraft, operating as 7C 2216, crashed after landing at Muan Airport killing 179 passengers and crew. Two cabin crew survived the accident.
