Air New Zealand to install Starlink connectivity on ATR72-600s

Air New Zealand (AirNZ) will be the launch customer for SpaceX Starlink high-speed internet connectivity installing it on the airline’s ATR 72-600s, ATR said. Read More » After successful test flights in the past few months, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency has cleared the technology for operations aboard the turboprop type, the OEM said. PMV Engineering has developed the necessary modifications for the certification of the Starlink aero terminal on ATR aircraft making it available as a retrofit option on the ATR 72-500 and -600. “We are always looking at innovative technology to deliver improved customer experiences. With the world’s largest satellite constellation, exploring in-motion connectivity on our aircraft with Starlink was a no brainer,” Air New Zealand chief digital officer, Nikhil Ravishankar, said. In addition to passenger benefits, the system will allow pilots to connect to aviation weather services, ATR said.
