Texas-based Sabre Corporation last week completed its $411 million acquisition of Abacus International, the GDS provider for more than 100,000 travel agents across 59 Asia-Pacific markets. Spanish competitor, Amadeus, last week signed an$830 million agreement to acquire U.S.-based Navitaire, Read More » which specialises in LCC-based services including ancillary revenue-generation, cost- streamlining, as well as loyalty, revenue management, revenue accounting and business intelligence services.

In the interim, Sabre has appointed Roshan Mendis as senior vice-president of its travel network Asia-Pacific, based at its regional headquarters in Singapore. Mendis, a native of Sri Lanka, joins the team following 12 years with Travelocity.com, where he was most recently president of the Americas, until its sale in early 2015 to Expedia. Mendis was also formally president of Zuji, Travelocity's Asia-Pacific brand, based in Singapore, and prior to that, vice president of Travelocity Partner Network.
