The Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has agreed to sell its MASwing subsidiary to Malaysia’s resource rich largest state. Read More » “The transfer is expected to be finalized by year-end, with MAG working closely with all stakeholders, including shareholder Khazanah Nasional Berhad, to ensure a seamless transition and compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory frameworks,” it said. Local media reports the Sarawak government intends to rebrand MASwings as AirBorneo after the 100% purchase is signed off. "By taking this strategic step, we are positioning Sarawak as an aviation hub for Borneo and a gateway to ASEAN, opening doors to new opportunities and fostering greater connectivity and accessibility to both domestic and international destinations,” Sarawak premier, Abang Johari Tun Openg, told the Bernama news outlet. Sarawak has been acquiring control of key assets across the country including distribution, seaports and banks, allowing it greater political and economic autonomy from Malaysia’s national government.
