Asia-Pacific carriers booked record demand growth in January

An International Air Transport Association (IATA) update issued overnight said Asia-Pacific airlines achieved a 21.8% year-on-year increase in demand, added capacity of 16.5% compared with 12 months ago and lifted load factor to 86.7% in the first 31 days of 2025. Globally, demand was up 10% against January 2024, capacity was 7.1% higher year-on-year and load factor was 82.1%, an all-time high for January. “We have seen a notable acceleration in demand this January with a particularly strong performance by carriers based in the Asia-Pacific. The record high load factors that accompany this strong demand are another reminder of the persistent supply chain issues in the aerospace sector,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said.
