Read More » Bangkok is the destination with the largest number of the group’s flights in Asia, with more than 10,000 seats available each week on 31 Europe-Asia routes. They include the recent addition of Rome-Bangkok via subsidiary ITA Airways. Approximately 33% of the group’s passengers flying into Bangkok from Europe transfer to domestic destinations in Thailand and to cities elsewhere in the region. Lufthansa has extended its seasonal A380 Munich-Bangkok rotation for a month to include Thailand’s Songkran festival in April as a result of robust holiday demand. The airline also will fly A380s in the 2025-2026 northern winter cycle, Spohr said. Cargo demand out of Thailand is increasing and the Asia-Pacific is the fastest growing market for its MRO businesses, the star alliance member said. At present, passenger revenue generated in Asia contributes 14% to total operations and the region’s cargo revenue accounts for 42%. “Depending on talks between the U.S., Russia and Europe, we hope Russian airspace will be reopened, allowing us more efficient operations to northern Asia where we are circumnavigating and experiencing delays,” Spohr said.
