All Nippon Airway-Singapore Airlines alliance approved but conditions apply

The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) has said a proposed alliance between All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) can proceed after it received and accepted undertakings from both carriers that they will adhere to the terms of the alliance requested by Singapore’s competition regulator. Read More » The CCCS said the two full-service airlines could cooperate on flights between Japan and Singapore, but it found their claims of the partnership’s benefits were “insufficient to outweigh the competition concerns” on the Singapore-Tokyo route. As a result of the CCCS’s concerns, ANA and SIA have agreed to maintain seat capacity on Singapore-Tokyo rotations at stipulated levels, submit a business plan for the route’s proposed growth, report flight schedules and capacity on the route that are operated by the LCCs owned by the two airlines and have compliance monitored by an independent auditor. “CCCS considered the proposed commitments to be sufficient to mitigate the competition concerns arising from the proposed cooperation,” it said.
