Global airline association reports air traffic demand eased in February

Appetite for air travel rose 2.6% last month compared with a year ago the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said. Read More » The airline lobby group’s update primarily attributed the result to the Lunar New Year falling in late January this year. In 2024, the peak holiday days were in early February. There are positive trends in passenger traffic in the months ahead, IATA said. “As of March 2025, scheduled flights globally for coming months are higher than in previous years, encouraging confidence the industry will see growth rates in line with recent observations,” IATA said. International revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) increased 5.6% in the reported month, but domestic RPKs declined 1.9%. Overall passenger load factor was up four tenths of a percentage point at 81.1%.The Asia-Pacific reported RPK growth of 4.2% for the 28 days.
