U.S. regulator reinstates Thailand’s Category 1 rating

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has announced the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has restored the country’s aviation safety rating to Category 1. Read More » The FAA downgraded Thailand to Category 2 in 2015 after it identified 36 safety oversight deficiencies at operating Thai airlines. The downgrade was in line with findings from the International Civil Aviation Organisation. It had raised concerns about gaps in Thailand’s aviation laws, particularly CAAT oversight in enforcing technical and safety regulations. Last November, the FAA began reassessing the category 2 rating and then approved an upgrade to category 1 status. As a result, Thailand’s airlines can fly to the U.S.
