AirAsia MOVE CEO says no tickets sold in Philippines at prices exceeding approved fare structures
June 9th 2025
AirAsia MOVE CEO, Nadia Omer, has told an inquiry in the Philippines the booking platform did not sell any tickets at prices which exceeded the country’s approved fare structures. Read More » The issue emerged last month, when the Philippines Department of Transportation (DOTr) issued AirAsia MOVE a cease and desist letter alleging the booking platform engaged in the unauthorised sale of airline tickets, citing a case where the cost of a Philippine Airlines flight from Tacloban to Manila was more than three times the price when booked directly on the carrier’s website. “Following the cease and desist order, MOVE immediately took action by calling out the attention of the third-party suppliers, requesting for an immediate removal of the fares in question,” Omer told the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) inquiry, according to a statement from AirAsia MOVE. “During its internal investigation, MOVE confirmed that no booking transaction was made. Likely, no passengers were affected by the displayed fare. Other than facing intense public scrutiny, MOVE did not gain any commission out of the fares in question.” Omer said MOVE was “ready to work closely” with the Philippines government to set up a task force and develop policies to monitor pricing to ensure alignment on booking platforms and the third-party supply chain in the online travel agency (OTA) sector.
