Australia’s domestic passengers increase after recent decline

While passengers flown returned to expansion in April, Australia’s domestic airlines continued their cautious approach to capacity in the 30 days with total seats available dipping 2.6%. Available seats declined year-on-year in the first four months of 2025, Australia’s Bureau of Research Infrastructure and Transport Economics (BITRE) reports. Passenger load factor jumped 5.2 percentage points to 82.8%, the 10th consecutive month domestic passenger load factor has exceeded 80%. Passengers carried on Australia’s busiest domestic route - Melbourne to Sydney - rose 5.2% to 675,100 air travellers in the month, BITRE said.
