July 8th 2025
Air India has denied it is seeking to reduce payments to the families of those killed in the airline’s AI171 fatal crash on June 12. Read More » "Air India categorically rejects these allegations and refutes them as both unsubstantiated and inaccurate," the airline said. "The forms being filled out by families of the 241 people who died on the flight sought basic information to establish family relationships to ensure advance payments were received by those eligible for them," the airline said. "The questionnaire does ask family members to indicate with a 'yes' or 'no' if they are 'financially dependent' on the deceased. Air India believes this is an entirely fair and necessary question in order to process payments to those most in need of assistance," the flag carrier said. All of its payments and those of parent, Tata Group, were voluntary and in addition to any compensation payable by law, Air India said.
