United Airlines boss Smisek steps down and board appoints Munoz in his place

United Continental Holdings Inc. chief executive, Jeffery Smisek, and two of his senior executives, suddenly departed the Chicago headquartered carrier early this week as the result of a federal investigation into the airline’s relationship with the former chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, David Samson. Read More » People familiar with the investigation said it centres on whether former Port Authority chairman, David Samson, used his position to demand favourable treatment or personal benefits from United. Harvard and Princeton University graduate Smisek has been replaced with CSX Corp. president and chief finance officer, Oscar Munoz.
Smisek also had to resign as chairman of A4A, effective immediately. The new chairman is American Airlines chairman and chief executive, Doug Parker. Also joining the A4A board will be newly appointed United chief and president, Oscar Munoz.
Sabre executive changes
Sabre Corp. has appointed current Sabre Travel Network president, Greg Webb, to the new role of Sabre vice-chairman, effective immediately. Sean Menke will fill Webb’s former president role from ng October 5.
