Manufacturers

The Airbus Beluga XL program has passed the latest maturity gate milestone, marking the end of the “concept phase,” or design freeze “at aircraft level.” According to Airbus, the maturity gate review demonstrated that the Beluga XL program is robust and mature enough to move to the next phase of development, the detailed design phase. Airbus expects final assembly to begin in 2017. Boeing has begun final assembly on schedule of the first B737 MAX 8 at its Renton, Washington, facility. Sichuan Airlines has signed a MOU with Pratt & Whitney (P&W) for the purchase of PW1100G engines to power 24 A320neo aircraft. The carrier has never announced an A320neo order, but China Southern Airlines, which holds nearly 40% of Sichuan, has ordered 50 A320neos and also agreed to lease 24 A320neos from AerCap Holdings. According to P&W, Sichuan’s A320neo fleet will consist of 15 owned and nine leased aircraft with deliveries starting in 2017.
