In its latest submission to South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) Korean Air (KAL) has offered to allow customers to use Asiana Airlines mileage for the next 10 years after the carriers fully merge, The Korea Times reports. Read More » It also proposes converting Asiana Airlines mileage into Korean Air points at a 1-to-1 ratio for flight miles and at 0.82 points per Asiana mile for partner programs such as credit card rewards. In June, KAL’s previous attempt to merge the loyalty programs of the two carriers was rejected by the FTC on the grounds it may harm the interests of Asiana’s customers. The June offer valued one Asiana mileage point at 0.7 of a Korean Air mile. The FTC said it will accept public opinions about the proposal to October 13. The regulator said the proposal was in line with the principle of ensuring a fair balance of the rights of both Korean Air and Asiana customers, meaning this will likely be the final plan unless there is serious consumer backlash. After its review, the commission will finalize the integration plan. It is intended to take effect from the date of the merger.
