Congestion continues to choke Mainland airports and carriers

The average on-time departure performance of China's 24 major airports handling more than ten million passengers annually stood at 69% in August, up 18% year-on-year, according to the latest data released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on October 10. Read More »

Kunming’s Changshui took the top spot with an on-time departure performance of 84.6%, followed by Xi'an’s Xianyang (79.6%) and Chongqing’s Jiangbei (79.1%). At Beijing’s Capital Airport, 64.6% of departures were on-time. Shanghai’s Pudong was ranked at the bottom of the list with only 51.2% on-time departures in August.

In terms of carriers, Mainland airlines averaged 57.1% of on-time departure performance in August, up 1.8% year-on-year. Shandong Airlines earned the top spot with 63.2% of its flights operating as scheduled, followed by Tianjin Airlines and Air China with 63.2% and 62.9%, respectively. Xiamen Airlines and China United Airlines were ranked at the bottom with only 40.6% and 32.9% of flights operating on schedule.
