IATA reports increased cargo volumes for October

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said air cargo demand rose for the eighth consecutive month in October despite ongoing weakness in trade between Asia and North America. Read More » Total cargo tonne-kilometres (CTK), a measure of demand, grew 4.1% in October, while capacity, or available CTKs, was up by 5.1%. "While the Asia-North America trade lane extended its contraction to six months, October saw double-digit or near double-digit growth within Asia, between the Middle East and Europe, and between Europe and Asia," IATA director-general, Willie Walsh, said. "This shifting growth pattern shows that air cargo is enabling global supply chains to adapt to the impact of US tariffs." The Asia-Pacific recorded CTK growth of 8.3% in the reported month, the second best performance after Africa (16.6%) of the six regions IATA monitors worldwide.
