ANA, Japan Airlines report contrasting passenger data for end-of-year peak travel season

All Nippon Airways (ANA) said the number of travellers on its international services during the end-of-year travel period between December 26 2025 and January 4 2026 rose 11.1% to 275,689, from 248,108 in the same period in 2024. Read More » The increase was larger than the 6.8% boost to seat capacity for the period, which led to passenger load factor rising 3.5 percentage points to 88.3%. The Star Alliance member’s domestic network achieved more moderate passenger growth of 1.3% to 1.5 million amid a 2.6% reduction in seats. The domestic passenger load factor was up 3.4 percentage points at 86.5%.
By contrast, local rival Japan Airlines (JAL) posted flat passenger numbers across its domestic and international operations during the 10-day peak travel period. The oneworld alliance member’s domestic network carried 1.099 million passengers, down 0.4% from 1.104 million in the prior corresponding period. Domestic seat capacity was 1.7% lower, which led to a 1.2 percentage point improvement in passenger load factor to 86.3%. Similarly, JAL’s international operations flew 0.4% fewer passengers at 222,923, compared with 223,865 in December 2024-January 2025 period. The airline added 1.5% more seats on its international network over this period, so with demand failing to match capacity growth, passenger load factor fell 1.7 percentage points to 85.5%.
