Iran temporarily closes its airspace affecting air traffic

Iran has closed its airspace for nearly five hours on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, amid concerns about possible military action by the U.S. in the country. Read More » Iran closed its airspace to all flights except international ones with official permission to and from Iran at 5:15 p.m. ET (2215 GMT) and reopened shortly after 10 p.m. ET (0300 GMT). Indian airlines were among the ones most affected by the closure. IndiGo warned that Iran’s sudden airspace closure would impact some of its international flights. Air India said its flights were using alternative routes that could result in delays or cancellations. The U.S. bans its airlines from using Iranian airspace. Other countries, including Germany, issued NOTAMs cautioning airlines from entering Iranian airspace.
