Air India, Lufthansa Group propose business agreement

Air India and Lufthansa Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a joint business agreement covering, in the initial phase, flights between India and Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Read More » The proposed partnership includes collaboration on route planning and flight schedules as well as joint sales, marketing and distribution initiatives. The two Star Alliance members also plan to work together on frequent flyer benefits, IT infrastructure for the customer journey and quality assurance. "As Air India continues to expand its global footprint with a fast-modernizing fleet and transformed product and service offerings, this framework enables us to explore closer cooperation on multiple fronts to meet the growing trade, commerce and people-to-people ties between our respective regions," Air India CEO, Campbell Wilson, said. Air India and Lufthansa Group’s carriers Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines and their affiliates, already code-share on 145 routes covering 15 cities in India and 29 in Europe across 20 countries. "Today’s agreement with our long-standing Star Alliance partner Air India is a strong signal of our mutual determination to open a new chapter in aviation between the EU and India following the landmark trade agreement between both economic regions," Lufthansa Group CEO, Carsten Spohr, said.
