Cathay Group January passenger numbers show "solid start" to 2026

Cathay Pacific reported 2.6 million passengers carried for January 2026, up 11.5% from 2.4 million from the same month last year. Read More » Capacity, or available seat kilometres, rose 14.3%, while passenger load factor slipped 1.5 percentage points to 84.9%. Cathay’s sister carrier, LCC HK Express, grew its passenger numbers 7.6%, to 717,561, in the 31 days, with capacity 12.8% higher and passenger load factor down 3.5 percentage points at 81.1%. "As a group, we have made a solid start to 2026 with momentum from the robust year-end travel peak sustaining into early January," Cathay chief customer and commercial officer, Lavinia Lau, said. "Our solid start to the year has continued in February. On 14 February 2026, both Cathay Pacific and the Cathay Group achieved new single-day passenger records." Looking ahead, Lau said travel demand during Easter, which falls in April this year, "remains robust", with bookings expected to accelerate as the holiday period draws near.
