Taiwan-headquartered China Airlines (CAL) unveiled its second "Pikachu-themed aircraft CI2" made in collaboration with The Pokémon Company. Read More » The aircraft, an Airbus A350-900, will enter service on April 2, 2026, on the Taipei-Tokyo Narita and Taipei-Seattle routes. The aircraft livery 13 Pokémon. In a similar manner to the airline’s first Pokémon jet, an Airbus A321neo, the design of the latest one will include clues to the company’s identity and Taiwanese culture. The auspicious clouds and floral tiles on the fuselage are inspired by Taiwan’s traditional floral tile culture, and the choice of particular Pokémon echoes Taiwan’s reputation as the "Butterfly Kingdom." The unique pastel color scheme echoes China Airlines’ classic plum blossom tail, creating a warm, delicate, and internationally recognizable design. The Pokémon enthusiast will appreciate "Easter eggs" in aircraft livery: "Passengers can also search for Pokémon hidden within the floral tile patterns during the flight, adding a touch of adventure to their journey," CAL declared. The company said the in-flight amenities on the Pikachu-themed aircraft will also incorporate Pokémon and unique Taiwanese floral tile elements.
