China Eastern Airlines reports sixth consecutive full year loss

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported a net loss of 1.6 billion yuan (US$236 million) for calendar 2025, an improvement from the net loss of 4.2 billion yuan in 2024. Read More » Revenue rose 5.9% to 129.9 billion yuan, CEA said in a regulatory filing. CEA last posted an annual profit in 2019. Looking ahead, the airline said it expected to take delivery of 51 aircraft in 2026, comprising 10 C919s, four C909s, 30 A320 family aircraft, two 787 family aircraft and five 737 MAX family aircraft. It will also retire 22 aircraft from its fleet. "Looking forward to 2026, the global economic growth will remain resilient in the short term," the SkyTeam alliance member said. "We will refine the domestic market, expand the international market and cultivate emerging markets. We will upgrade the flight wave structure of the Shanghai international hub, and continuously optimise the passenger transfer process to improve the efficiency of transfer and connection."
