Jetstar, Qantas confirm initial domestic network from new Western Sydney Airport

LCC Jetstar will start flights from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport from October this year with an initial network of three destinations - Brisbane (three times weekly), Gold Coast (four times weekly) and Melbourne Tullamarine (up to 14 times weekly). Read More » All routes will be served with A320 aircraft. The JQ362 from Western Sydney Airport to Gold Coast on 25 October will be the first commercial passenger flight from the new airport. Qantas will commence operations from the airport on March 28 next year with four flights a week to both Tullamarine and Brisbane, operated by QantasLink with E190s. The airline is also starting cargo flights from Western Sydney Airport from July 27. The announcement of the two carriers’ schedules followed the signing of a five-year agreement between the airport operator and Qantas Group. "We’re excited by the potential of Western Sydney International Airport to spur local tourism and make aviation more accessible for millions of people in Western Sydney, who currently have to travel to Kingsford Smith to catch a flight," Qantas Group CEO, Vanessa Hudson, said. Western Sydney International Airport CEO, Simon Hickey, said: "Despite the ongoing global conflict that continues to challenge the industry, today’s domestic ticket launch is another vote of confidence in Western Sydney International Airport, and the opportunities this rapidly growing region presents for the future of air travel in Greater Sydney."
