Taiwan-headquartered EVA Airways has filed an application to provide direct flights to Delhi and hopes the new service will start in early December, EVA Air’s president Clay Sun told media last weekend in Washington, D.C., at the event following the launch of direct flights to the U.S. capital on Friday. Read More » According to Sun, Taipei, EVA Air’s hub, is positioned well to link North America to South Asia. EVA Air provides early-morning direct services to several major U.S. cities from Taipei, particularly Los Angeles and Seattle, allowing passengers who fly from Delhi to transit in Taiwan to North America, Sun said. The carrier plans to target Indian software engineers working in Silicon Valley with its upcoming flight service. Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) reports Sun noted that he has faith EVA Air will be able to compete with Cathay Pacific Airways and Singapore Airlines (SIA) in the North America-South Asia transit market after launching the service to India.
EVA Airways debuted its North American operations in 1992 with Taipei - Los Angeles service. Currently, it flies to 10 direct flight destinations in North America (Houston, Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Vancouver, Toronto and Washington, D.C.), providing 98 round-trip flights every week, topping the combined flights of Taiwanese rivals China Airlines (CAL) and STARLUX Airlines, which together operate about 70 flights a week. Sun said North America accounts for about 40% of EVA Air’s passenger flight revenue and about 70% of its cargo services revenue.
Sun told reporters that the AI boom has boosted demand for cargo services, with AI goods accounting for 40-50% of the airline’s total cargo services revenue. EVA Air remains optimistic about the cargo services market and will increase its cargo fleet by three to 12 in 2028 to expand cargo capacity, he added.
