Australia’s international air travellers declined for a third straight month in June

Read More » It was the third consecutive month of a year-on-year decline in Australia’s international air travellers, following falls of 1.4% and 0.8% in May and April, respectively. The monthly report from Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) said Qantas Group’s Qantas Airways led the market with a 16.7% share of all passengers, up 0.7 of a percentage point from 16.0% a year earlier. The other Qantas Group airline, Jetstar Airways, also grew its market share in June to 14.8%, from 13.5% in the same month in 2025. Singapore Airlines (SIA) was Australia’s largest foreign carrier in the 30 days at 9.5%, followed by Air New Zealand (6.0%) and Cathay Pacific Airways (4.7%). More than one in five passengers, or 21.8%%, flying into and out of Australia in February did so on an LCC, the BITRE report said, up from 20.8% in the same month in 2025 and 20.3% in June 2024. Total seats into and out of Australia fell 0.5% to 4.3 million in June. SIA topped the table for international freight for the month with a 15.6% market share, ahead of Qantas (11.2%) and Cathay Pacific (7.5%).
