Australia and Indonesia agree to expand air services agreement

Airlines in Australia will be able to fly more seats to Indonesia from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney following an agreement between the two governments to expand their bilateral air services agreement. Read More » The updated agreement adds 5,000 more seats per week for airlines of both countries and includes more destinations in Indonesia. Currently, there is no available capacity for Australian airlines to expand flying to Indonesia from the four major state capitals, with the 25,000 available seats per week all but fully utilised. A "regional package" where flights from the four capitals to Indonesia operate via or beyond another point in Australia, has also been almost completely allocated. Indonesian airlines are using about 35% of their available 25,000 seats. The Australian government said it was the first update of its bilateral air services agreement with Indonesia in 15 years. "Jakarta and Denpasar are already popular holiday destinations for Australians, so being able to increase that capacity and open up new destinations across Indonesia will be welcome news for everyone," Australia Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King, said.
