A dog would laugh," said Korean Air chairman, Cho Yang-ho’s posting on Facebook in response to a company pilot who complained about unfair pay and harsh working conditions at South Korea’s largest carrier.

Cho and his heirs have a reputation for high-handed behaviour. Cho’s daughter, Cho Hyun-ah, landed in jail last year after violating air safety procedures in the highly-publicized “nut rage scandal”.


AirAsia India appoints new CEO and CFO

AirAsia India has announced that former American Express veteran, Amar Abrol, will succeed Mittu Chandilya as CEO when he leaves the carrier at the end of this month, following close to three years in the job. It is understood that Chandilya and other stakeholders in AirAsia India had major disagreements.

India’s AirAsia Group offshoot also announced the appointment of former Air France-KLM executive, Ankur Khanna as CFO, and Kiran Jain as its head of commercial operations. The LCC has been unprofitable since it was launched in mid-2014.


GMF AeroAsia announces new chief

Garuda Indonesia’s MRO arm, GMF AeroAsia, has appointed Juliandra Nurtjahjo as new president director, succeeding Richard Budihadianto. Nurtjahjo was formerly director line operations.

“GMF is conducting the acceleration of company’s long-term strategy in 2016-2020, and is committed to achieve a $1 billion target by 2018, two years earlier than [our] initial plan,” he said. “In the future, GMF will serve aircraft maintenance facilities in Eastern Indonesia supporting [operations] in Europe, East Asia and the Middle East,” Juliandra said.
