HKIA opens Midfield terminal, Cathay Dragon rolls out

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has officially opened its new Midfield Concourse (MFC). The 105,000-square-metre, five-storey building provides 20 parking positions and has increased the ratio of passengers boarding and disembarking aircraft using airbridges. Read More » The new concourse now handles about 230 flights a day, or approximately 20% of HKIA’s daily passenger flights. It is expected to increase HKIA’s capacity by 10 million passengers annually.

HNA Group’s Hong Kong Airlines will be the main carrier using the MFC. At the grand opening, Hong Kong Airlines president, Zhang Kui, said, “In the past few months, we gradually increased the number of flights at MFC to around 83% currently, making us one of the major airlines at MFC. This change has helped enhance our on-time performance and further improved the overall passenger experience significantly.”

HKIA’s third HK$141.5 billion ($18.26 billion) runway will be operational from 2023, according to the latest plans.

In other Hong Kong updates, Cathay Dragon, the former Dragonair, on Tuesday rolled out its first aircraft, B-HYQ, in the updated livery. The A330-300 performed flight KA900 to Beijing that day.
