Hong Kong Airlines receives U.S. Foreign Air Carrier Permit; leases two A330s

HNA Group’s Hong Kong Airlines has been granted its Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) and route exemption from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Read More » The full-service carrier can now launch its planned four-weekly Hong Kong-Saipan A330-200 flights in June.

Hong Kong Airlines’ budget subsidiary, HK Express, has applied for its own FACP with plans to commence twice-weekly services to Saipan and Guam, respectively, using its all-economy A320s.

Last week, Hong Kong Airlines signed long-term leases with AWAS for two A330-300s to aid its rapid expansion. The two frames will come out of AWAS’ existing stock and join the carrier’s fleet of five A330-300s, nine A330-200s, 11 A320s and five A330-200Fs.

In other Hong Kong updates, Cathay Pacific Airways has opened its revamped first and business class lounge in Vancouver. The carrier is refurbishing its The Pier business class lounge in Hong Kong, which will re-open later this month.
