Hawaiian sole applicant for night time Haneda slot

The Honolulu-based airline has until January 29 to begin the approved daily A330 service to Hawaii, split between Honolulu (four-weekly) and Kona (thrice-weekly). "This is tremendous news for Hawaiian Airlines, for our employees, our customers and for the economies of Kona and our entire state," said airline CEO, Mark Dunkerley.
The remaining competition for the five daytime slots is intense. Delta Air Lines has applied for three daily services, American Airlines and United Airlines for two each and Hawaiian for one. A decision is expected by June.
Following the announcement, Delta, true to form, argued Hawaiian should forfeit the daytime slot, while United complained all proposals should have been considered at the same time, rather than separated.
